Your private guide will meet you at your Central London hotel at 9AM and will explain the tour itinerary. This is a good opportunity to discuss any changes you might like to make or mention any requests you may have.
London has a dramatic history that spans over 2000 years. The Romans made it their capital nearly 2000 years ago and William the Conqueror built his castle here and crowned himself king on December 25th, in Westminster Abbey, in 1066.
London is now one of the most exciting and vibrant multicultural cities in the world.
With a fully qualified guide by your side you will see and hear all about London's history as well as some amusing stories about London and the people who helped make it the city it is today.
Churchill War Rooms
Your guide will take you on a short walking tour of Westminster through the royal park and along Whitehall. This area is known as the corridors of power as this is where our government sit. Here you will see Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Downing Street, the home of our Prime Minister. You will then arrive at the Churchill War Rooms. The secret underground bunker where Sir Winston Churchill led the war effort. Construction of the Cabinet War Rooms began in 1938. They became fully operational on 27 August 1939, a week before Britain declared war on Germany. The War Rooms remained in operation throughout the Second World War, before being abandoned in August 1945.
A visit there now is like going back in time as most of these rooms remain just as they were when the door was closed in 1945.
This tour can be taken either in the morning or afternoon.
